Taking a crack at an online business

You'll see hundreds of advertisings for get rich quick schemes on the internet. Some involving dropshippers. Well, I've come to tell you they will not make you rich. Yes, you can get a pretty good deal on the merchandise for yourself. Most of the time, anyway.

One of the downsides of it all is the marketing. Trying to get the word out. Do you spend hundreds of dollars on newspaper ads and even radio spots? Do you get on all the traffic exchange websites and hope that, for every thousand hits it brings you, you actually get someone to browse your site?

Another downside is the control. Since you are basically an advertiser for the dropshipper you have minimal control on the pricing on your website. Sometimes the "break even" price, the price where you make no money, is still higher than some of the other big sites. For instance, on my site (http://www.valueliquidators.com/) I sell XBox360's and Playstation 3's. But honestly, at the break even price, they are still higher than the big blue "Box Store". But I have some car video equiptment that they do not have, and cheap.

So I guess the bottom line is if you really want to take a crack on an online dropshipper's business, be aware of its limitations. There is nothing out there that could truely make you rich overnight. But if you're willing to take some time and be honest with people, maybe you can scratch out a living for yourself.
